Teaching

TEACHING PHILOSOPHY

My pedagogical strategies are grounded sociocultural learning theories that generate a student-centered learning environment and promote intellectual productivity. This environment incorporates metacognitive strategies and collaborative student networks, which aid in the scaffolding of students' construction of new knowledge from their previous conceptions.

 

In my courses, I assign projects and in-class activities to facilitate a deeper engagement with course content and to create space for students' to incorporate their home cultures, share ideas across content areas, and generate new ideas from their interactions with others. Examples of four assignments I use in my classes are found in the table below.

I have also utilized undergraduate mentor teachers, often referred to as Learning Assistants (LAs) and Embedded Peer Educators (EPEs).
